Examination

To sit for the Certified Neonatal Therapist examination, candidates must consent to the biometric verification procedures required by Pearson testing centers. These procedures may include multiple forms of identification, digital photographs, electronic signatures, facial recognition, and palm vein scanning. During the scheduling process, candidates are required to consent to all verification methods, including those that may not be utilized at their selected testing location.

Failure to provide consent during scheduling will prevent exam registration and result in forfeiture of the examination fee. Likewise, candidates who consent during scheduling but decline verification procedures at the testing center will not be permitted to test, and their exam fee will be forfeited.

Candidates who prefer to test at a location that does not use palm vein scanning must notify the NTCB at least 90 days prior to the end of their exam eligibility period. Upon request, the NTCB can provide a list of available testing centers within the candidate’s geographic region (which may be outside their state) that do not utilize this technology. However, all candidates must still consent to all verification methods during scheduling, including palm vein scanning, regardless of whether it is used at their selected site.

Refunds will not be issued to candidates who decline to schedule or sit for the examination due to palm vein scanning if prior notification was not provided at least 90 days in advance. Additionally, no refunds will be granted to candidates who select a testing center that utilizes palm vein scanning and subsequently refuse the procedure upon arrival.

Applicants who do not achieve a passing score on the certification examination will receive feedback identifying areas of relative difficulty.

If an applicant chooses to retake the examination, one retake is permitted at a reduced fee of $250. Candidates who do not achieve a passing score on the second attempt will be deemed ineligible for certification for a period of one year. After this interval, the applicant may submit a new application for certification.

The examination must be completed within six months of receiving notification of eligibility.

The certification examination is administered exclusively in English, regardless of the testing location.

Most questions regarding the examination are answered in the “Exam Manual.” Please review this document thoroughly before beginning an application.
